English Language Challenges

My experience about learning English at university  is difficult to explain, because when I studied English at school I thought I knew a lot because I was doing well in English class, but when I arrived at university and I gave the English test to find at what level would be and I was wrong in the test. There, I realized I didn't know much English as I thought, so I started by English 2. 

It has always cost me speak and write English,  but doesn't cost me so much understand when I read or hear. So, the use of blogs to learn English has meant for me a great challenge.  I have learned the correct verb conjugations and learned many words that I didn't knew, because of the various topics that I have written in this blog. 

Regarding the aspects that I need to be improved, I think I should improve my pronunciation because it is very poor and clumsy. Besides, I have a limited vocabulary and this is the result of my lack of commitment to English, because apart from the university classes I not use much English. 

For a while I'm doing my plan to improve my English and is about change my method to see my favorites series. So,  I have seen my series in English with subtitles in Spanish, but now I see my favorites series in English with subtitles in English. That way it help me to understand the totality the talk. With this method  not only I learn new words but also their pronunciation.

Changes to my study programme

When I started to study in this faculty, ICEI of Universidad de Chile, I thought it was almost the only ones that had a curriculum in accordance with the current necessity of the comunication medios of Chile. But when I started the classes I realize that the curriculum lacked much more profundity, in areas like a politics and history of Chile. Because when entering to the university all students have a different know about this topics.


About the faculty facilities are very small compared with the number students enrolled, something we don't have enough classroms, if it not were for the "aularios" we don't have an adequate space. In respect of the use of technology that we have in the institute is low, we have problems with the quantity of photography and video equipments. We have a low quantity to equipments for students and this slows our assignment. Also, this photography and video equipments are good, are medium quality, it isn't the latest technology and isn't the best, but it is well.


About the workload and length of studies, I think that it ok. The workload sometimes is low, but it depend of the semester. The second year of journalism, in the first semester we had three courses and in my case I had classes three days a week and the next semester I had six courses. So, maybe the curriculum it bad or not sufficient. Thence now was a new curriculum.


According to the length of the studies, I think it's okay. The only thing I would change would shorten the first four years of the career to three or three and a half years, and this would allow that in fifth year of career we would have one semester to do the professional practice.

 
Finally, about the teaching methods I think that are bad. Because most teachers aren't teachers, so they can't know teach. The teachers we have in the institute are experts in their subject areas, but they not able to pass that knowledge to their students.

Winter Holidays!

I looking forward to the Winter Holidays I look forward to the winter holidays , but don't think I had vacation this winter because of the student mobilizations. But always we can have a week to escape to the clases and relax. So my plans for to Winter Holidays is go to south of Chile, specifically go to Caburgua where my parents have a cottage where arrives. Caburgua it a town near to Pucón, Villarica, etc. and have a beautiful lake called same the town, Caburgua. 

The last year I could escape of the clases and I went to Caburgua for six days with my son, Bruno (my boyfriend) and my parents. So this winter I will go at least for few days to the south, even I will go alone with my son hahaha. If all goes good, Bruno could be achieved few days in his job, and we could go to Caburgua.

What I most like to vacation there are the hot spring, we have gone to many  hot spring centers, and we loved. So our challenge is to go to all places of hot springs that are in place, and there are too many. And what better to visit in winter vacations! 

I have to wait what will happen to my vacation, but yes or yes I will go to any places, for relaxing and disconnected to the Santiago, the university and all.

A meal I like to cook for myself

Hi!, today I will talk about the food, about of my favorite meal that I cook for myself. Really I know how to cook many different meals, because when I was a child my mom taught me the preparation of many foods, we spent entire afternoon cooking because we both like to cook.

One of the foods that I like is the pastry food, I like to cook cakes, pancakes, lemon pie, cupcakes, truffles, actually I like to cook whatever is sweet and delicious !

Once I cooked a chocolate mousse with red fruits and chocolate ganache. I prepared this dessert for dinner of New Year. That day we were all afternoon preparing the mousse with my sister, all the recipes we had were different, some occupied eggs, other occupied cream, and we didn't know what would be easier and with which we work dessert. So we decided we would try how was the best preparation.

And after an afternoon of frustration, we tried to aerate the mousse with eggs. It was the least reliable way, but it worked instantly!

Then we left the dessert in the refrigerator waiting for the dinner was ready. Surprisingly, it was ready! The mousse was delicious and our whole family loved it.

We haven't returned to prepare the dessert but it certainly was what I liked to cook and I 'll cook again this dessert.

POSTGRADUATE STUDIES

I’m not sure if I will do a postgraduate, mainly because it is very expensive. But, if I had the money I would like study a Master in Documentary Film. Today is transcendent to have a degree more than just the professional title, especially to find work and raise salary expectations.

The documentary film course I would love to study it because it is what I would most like to work within the working world of journalism. With this course I could learn many things that journalism career left out, because now I not feel ready to make documentaries and I would like to make many. The place where I would study this magister is in the same university, the University of Chile. In this university there are very good teachers of the subjects of the course and most classes have made me now.

About the way in which I would like to study is not presential classes, but that is impossible hahaha. For all I know , the course lasts two years and there are classes twice a week in the afternoon, rather in the night. So if I decide to study after leaving university, will be when I become a famous journalist, has a lot of money and time to dedicate to travel the world with my family doing documentaries and enjoying my work.

My Future Job

When I think in my future job I think in two possibilities, one I like more than the other hahaha. First, I imagine in a job where I work in an office, in a traditional comunication medio, like a radio o tv. the true is that I would like to work in either of those two places, I really like the radio, is dynamic and entertaining, but is very stressing. And the tv, is the same that radio, is interesting and I like so much the audiovisual medios. So, I like both alternatives for my future job, but to be enclosed in an office, working in shifts, which can be long shifts at night or in the day, this part I don't like.

The other possibility is work independently, making documentaries, traveling to find new stories and enjoy the world. BUT, this is impossible, because it takes a lot of money, time and recording equipment. And I don't have any hahaha.

So, the possibility left is work in a tradicional medio for a time, in a full time and I will get tired much, but with money :(. Then, and while working, would study a master in Documentary film. And eventually I'll see if I can become independent and do the work I like. 

My pets

I don’t have pets, but i had a pet a few years ago. Her name was Manchitas and was a stray animal. One day I found her on the street, next to the gas station, she was shivering and was very badly hurt. The people who were near to Manchitas told me that she had had an accident. a car hit her and came to the side of the street like she could. 

Then I took to her to the veterinarian and there they was informed me that she would lose one of its legs. So I decided she stay for a time in my house, as she improved the accident. After that, spent time with my family,  we begin to love our new pet. 

The vet told us it would be better for Manchitas if we cut her leg, as it should not be infected and get used to walking without his leg. So, we decided to operate, it was very difficult for us to see to Manchitas without one of his legs, but she looked good, ran at full speed and was happy.

We stay with she very long time, but when my son was born, Manchitas barked and growled at he. Until one day she escaped, we look for a long time, but she never returned. We were sad, but we had the joy we did a good job with she, we cure when she was wrong and we loved much.
